About Us
Mission
The V3 Campaign will make the voice of the social enterprise and non-profit movement heard, its value realized, and its votes counted in EVERY election while remaining within IRS code for 501c3 political action as written. We are creating an educational movement of nonprofit activists who take on the cause of nonprofit organization advocacy for their own, and who will ensure that elected officials understand and stand up for nonprofit organizations.
The V3 Campaign will develop partnerships that facilitate legislative and electoral strategies within targeted states, for a broad range of nonprofit organizations. The V3 Campaign will train and mobilize nonprofit organizations and workers to participate to the extent which it is legal, to ensure that nonprofit workers are a recognized constituency.
In this way nonprofit organizations will be able to present a united front to elected officials and will be in a better bargaining position when it comes time for legislators to determine budgets. The V3 Campaign will be the advocacy and campaign school for all nonprofit organizations.
History
I work at the DC Central Kitchen, an organization in Washington, DC that collects food donated by area foodservice businesses, which we use to train unemployed men and women for foodservice jobs while we convert donations into 4,500 meals every day of the year.
And every day, like many of you, we are asked to do more, for more, with less. Every day we compete with you, our fellow nonprofits, for money. Every day we struggle to get media to report on the broader issues we address or provide in-depth analysis of the work we do and the economic contributions we make. And, like many of you who have ventured into city halls, state houses and federal buildings to advocate for your issues, we see our causes and concerns falling on semi-deaf ears.
We, the nonprofit sector cannot sit on the sidelines anymore—hoping that candidates for higher office or elected officials will take into consideration the economic contributions we make in every city and state. Nor can we wait for our social contributions to be a viewed as a vital component in keeping our country safe, strong, healthy and just.
That is why I launched the V3 Campaign in 2008, and why I am asking you to join a growing and committed network of colleagues, volunteers, funders and friends in building a new nonprofit movement.
